My primary body of work stemmed from ideas revolved around water quality issues. Over time I discovered that glass is a perfect medium to represent water almost as if it is capturing a moment in time like a sculptural photograph. Recently I am designing a line of glassware and vessels shaped from rocks collected from different bodies of water. The idea is for people to drink, hold, interact but most of all to think about their relationship and experiences with their favorite natural location.

Tell us how your work is made.

Each vessel or sculpture begins from gathering glass out of a furnace at about 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Every piece is crafted by hand utilizing ancient techniques with modern design. My latest series of glass vessels are sculpted by river rocks collected from specific locations.


What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

As soon as I began working with hot glass in 2014 I was grasped by the immediate, fragile, and unforgiving process. It takes a certain personality to fall in love with this material. Its a method that can never be mastered but that is why it fascinates me. For the rest of my career I will only learn and improve and to me that is the most exciting profession a person can have.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

The most Unique part of my work is the concept along with the aesthetic. In my River Rock Series each piece is sculpted by stones from specific locations. People that interact with the object will be reminded of their experiences and connection with that location every time they drink, hold or interact with the item. It is an everyday reminder of the importance of these beautiful locations and our environment as a whole. Once I collect the rocks from the lake or river, I blow the molten glass into the rocks at about 2000 Degrees Fahrenheit. The aesthetic is simple and clean, emphasizing the beautiful organic features shaped only by nature.
